Refers to output voltage short circuit protection. Means it is not cycle by cycle current limit like what you expect from peak current mode control but is a latch off fault protection where the VIN or EN must be reset to clear the fault. A soft overload will cause the same latch off protection as a short circuit overload. Both are activated based on the output voltage dropping below output UVLO, as determined at the FBVDD, FBVEE pins.
Steve
Steve,
I understood.
Does UCC34141-Q1 have any over current protection? The configuration of the case is here.
Best regards,
Shotaro
UCC34141-Q1 does have a proprietary internal current limit function applied to the buck-boost, -VEE regulator. This is necessary to prevent the buck-boost inductor from saturating.
Steve
Steve,
I understand. Does datasheet have specification for the " internal current limit function"?
Best regards,
Shotaro
When "internal current limit function" is latched, what is behavior of the device?
When latched fault occurs, switching stops, no output voltage and the user must toggle ENA or VIN to reset and recover from the fault.
Steve
Steve,
In summary, is the below correct? I want to double check my understanding before inform to customer.
Best regards,
Condition | Detection way | Operation mode | Recover way |
Short-circuit | Output voltage dropping at FBVDD/FBVEE go to UVLO | Latch off | Toggle ENA or VIN |
Internal current limit applied to the buck-boost-VEE regulator | Not specified on datasheet | Latch off | Toggle ENA or VIN |
