TPS22950: Reverse Current Blocking

Part Number: TPS22950

Tool/software:

Hello,

In Section 7.5 of Datasheet of the TPS22950, there is Activation Threshold VRCB of 44 mV (VOUT > VIN) specified:

Section 9.3.4 of Datasheet says the following:

So, will TPS22950 block reverse current if VRCB Activation Threshold is reached? Or if reverse current is greater then 900 mA only?

If VRCB is reached and reverse current is smaller than 900 mA, this reverse current won't be blocked by the device?

Thanks and best regards,

Christoph

  • Hello Christoph,

Yes, TPS22950 works on VOUT-VIN level. When VOUT is more than VIN by 44mV. RCB will be in effect and block the reverse current.

So, will TPS22950 block reverse current if VRCB Activation Threshold is reached? Or if reverse current is greater then 900 mA only?

Yes, It's current. Device can be able to block reverse current more than 900mA.

    Thanks

    Amrit

  • Hi Amrit,

thank you for your answer. So, will reverse current less than 900 mA be blocked too? Datasheet says:

"When the reverse current threshold is exceeded (about 900 mA), there is a delay time (tRCB) before the switch turns off to stop the current flow."

So,  what happens if VOUT is 44 mV above VIN but reverse current is less than 900 mA?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Christoph

  • So,  what happens if VOUT is 44 mV above VIN but reverse current is less than 900 mA?

It will block. Reverse current comparator works based on VOUT level does not reverse current level. 900mA is calculated based on RDSon
