BQ24610: Application Question: BQ24610 with Buck-Boost for 12V System

Part Number: BQ24610

Tool/software:

Hi TI team,

I’m working on a power system design and would like to confirm if the BQ24610 is suitable for the following application.

Application Overview:

  • Input Voltage: 12V to 24V

  • System Load: 12V @ 2A (24W)

  • Battery: 1-cell Li-ion (4.2V max), 2.5A charge current

  • Charger: Must be standalone

  • Behavior:

    • When input is present: the charger supplies the system load and charges the battery.

    • When input is removed: the battery powers the 12V/2A system load (through a buck-boost converter).

Questions:

Can I connect a buck-boost converter directly to the VSYS output of the BQ24610 to meet my application requirements?

If so:

  • Are there any concerns or recommended design practices for this kind of architecture?

  • Are there any recommended buck-boost modules?

If not:

  • Do you have any recommended standalone charger ICs that are better suited for this application?

Bset regards,

Tom
