TPS389006-Q1: Monitoring 12V battery by resistor divider

Part Number: TPS389006-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

My customer wants to monitor 12V car battery input voltage with TPS389006-Q1.

However, the input voltage range is limited up to 5.5V for this device.

Could they use resistor voltage divider on 12V to drop voltage to the acceptable range?

What resitance range can be recommended not to impact voltage monitoring accuracy?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Kenneth,

    Thanks for your question!

Yes, a resistor divider is recommended to drop the 12V to the acceptable range.

The resistance range can be chosen by the customer but please keep in mind the accuracy ratings shown below:

In general, it is recommended to stay within the 1x scale when an external resistor divider is used like in this application as it is more accurate than 4x scale sensing.

In the past, we have seen customers center the threshold around 1V nominal.

    I hope this helps!

    Best Regards,

    Andrew Li
