BQ78350: CHEM ID Selection Question for BQ78350

Part Number: BQ78350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, , GPCCHEM, GPCCEDV

Tool/software:

Dear TI Technical Support Team,

We are currently using the same battery cell chemistry in two different types of TI fuel gauge ICs:

  • An Impedance Tracking-based fuel gauge, such as the bq40z50

  • A CEDV algorithm-based fuel gauge, such as the bq78350

We would like to ask if it is possible to share the same CHEM ID between these two different gauge architectures?

Additionally, if the CHEM ID was generated by sending the cells to TI for characterization, would we need to perform separate characterizations for each gauge type?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Best regards,

Tom

  • Hello Tom,

It is still recommended to use the GPCCHEM and GPCCEDV tool to get your chemID generated for your product, however you should be able to use the same chemID across your fuel gauge algorithm. Please make sure they are the same high quality cells preferably from the same source.

    Thank you,
    Alan
