According to SLVA934A and some forum entries, during reverse polarity operation, a high reverse voltage may appear on the FAULT and IMON pins. However, there is a note stating that this issue does not occur on devices manufactured after 2013.
That said, the latest datasheet still recommends using a current-limiting resistor on the IMON pin.
Could you please clarify whether this issue is still present in devices manufactured after 2013?
