TPS1HTC30-Q1: Explation between fault and mosfet gate

Part Number: TPS1HTC30-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi, I did some tests with the TPS1HTC30. I observed a situation I don't understand and I couldn't find explanation in the datasheet.

The situation is; when the current is close to the limit (about 10% below the current limit), the fault drops and the IC starts to heat up.

Our think is reduces the Gate voltage with the Fault Flag.

So what causes this situation?

  • Hi Oguzhan,

The current limit has a range based on the KCL min/max values.

When the device is actively clamping the current, there is more power loss and the device heats up. The fault will also go low to indicate the overcurrent condition.

What is the ILIM resistor and current limit you are trying to set the device to?

  • Hi Rishika,

Our ILIM resistor is 24.9K Ohm and current limit is 4A.

    Fault goes low around 3.6A.

  • Hi Oguzhan,

Since parameters may vary across PVT (process, voltage, and temperature), we would have to consider the tolerances given. So, the ILIM range is 3.2/4.0/4.8A (ILIM = KCL/RILIM) as the MIN/TYP/MAX respectively based on the KCL range given and RILIM = 24.9k.

    Best Regards,
