LM5171-Q1: LM5171-Q1 IC MULTIPHASE OPERATION SCHEMATICS

Part Number: LM5171-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5171

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am designing a 4-phase bidirectional Buck-boost converter considering LM5171-Q1 ICs. My specification is given below:

Vin=8V, Vout=12V and Iout=360A. Average inductor current per phase is 90A(1S) and my continuous current is 40A.

I have considered Master-Slave Daisy-Chain Configurations for 4-phase to eliminate requirement of external clock. How the pins configuration of two LM5171-Q1 ICs? Which pins should be tied together. And how Sync pins should be configured? Is it possible to get a reference design.

  • Hi Archin,

I would suggest to start from 50A per phase.

    In general, you need to:

    • Send SYNC signals to each phase with proper phase shift
    • Send the primary IC voltage loop error signal (ERRLV) to ISETx of all IC.

Please refer to LM5171 EVM user's guide. A four-phase operation jumper setting is introduced.

    Best Regards,

    Feng

  • Hi Feng,

    Thank you for reply.

Can you please share me what are the changes need to make from 2phase to 4 phase.  I am finding little difficult to understand from LM5171 EVM user's guide.

  • Hi Archin,

    In general, you need to:

    • Send SYNC signals to each IC with proper phase shift
    • Send the primary IC voltage loop error signal (ERRLV) to ISETx of all IC.

Please refer to LM5171 EVM user's guide where a four-phase operation jumper setting is introduced.
