TPS62120: Thermal limit of TPS62120

Part Number: TPS62120

Tool/software:

I have observed below points in datasheet,

1) In datasheet, Tj max can go upto 125C.

2) In datasheet, thermal shutdown hysteresis given as below:

Question 1: With respect to temperature & power dissipation of device, this thermal shutdown hysteresis or thermal shutdown max temperature can change?

Question 2: Why there is 25C gap between max recommended junction temperature 125C & thermal shutdown max temperature 150C?

Question 3: Is it possible to have normal operation of converter when it is having junction temperature in range of 125 - 150C?

  • Hi Mayur,

Question 1: With respect to temperature & power dissipation of device, this thermal shutdown hysteresis or thermal shutdown max temperature can change?

    Nope, they stay fixated.

Question 2: Why there is 25C gap between max recommended junction temperature 125C & thermal shutdown max temperature 150C?

I don't understand this question. 25C is the buffer to bring the system thermals under control.

Question 3: Is it possible to have normal operation of converter when it is having junction temperature in range of 125 - 150C?

Nope, anything above recommended Tj: the functionality is not guaranteed. The device will switch for sure until 150C but not guaranteeing the nominal/normal operation.
