BQ76952: Why there is an diode between the PACK+/- in TI reference design?

Why in TI BQ76952 reference design, there is an diode between the PACK+/- as below picture circled in green? If there is a reverse charger attached, the diode will directly conduct and it seems quite risky. Can you help me to understand this, and what this diode used for in a typical system?
