BQ25798: Design Review

Part Number: BQ25798

Tool/software:

Hello,

Please review the schematic and share your feedback. I have a question regarding the system voltage, When VBUS is present at the input, is the system voltage (VSYS) directly equal to VBUS, or does it depend on the internal regulation of the switching converter?

Design details:

Battery: 2S lithium ion
Input Current Limit: No limit, allow maximum possible input current.
USB: Not used.
Input: USB PD or Solar

Thanks,
Sebin Sebastian

  • Hi Sebin,

I do not see any obvious issues with the schematic. In regards to your question, VSYS is regulated by the switching converter. At POR, VSYSMIN is determined by the PROG pin configuration but can be changed by the host device after POR. With VBUS present at the input and battery attached, VSYS is regulated to VSYSMIN and follows VBAT up to VREG as the battery charges. Refer to section 9.3.6 of the datasheet for more information on VSYS behavior when VBUS is present but battery is removed.

Please let me know if I can provide additional assistance.

    Best Regards,

    Austin
