LM5143-Q1: Maximum output current specification

Guru 11200 points
Part Number: LM5143-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

Why is the maximum output current of the LM5143-Q1 limited to 40A even though it is an external FET DC/DC controller?

Thanks,

JH

  • Hello JH

While the LM5143-Q1 is an external FET DC/DC controller, the 40A specification should be viewed as a general design recommendation rather than a hard limitation. The actual maximum output current is indeed determined by the external components (MOSFETs and inductors) you select.

For applications requiring currents beyond 40A, we typically recommend moving to a 3-phase or 4-phase design approach. This recommendation is based on practical considerations - managing efficiency and thermal performance becomes challenging even with dual phase designs.

    Hope this answers your question

    Thank you
