LMR33620-Q1: Layout question

Part Number: LMR33620-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

My customer (CosMX) is doing PCB layout for LMR336220-Q1. Because of the space limit, they want to know if the pin2 can flow 2A current while the pin10 only flow 0.5A?

Best Regards,

Ryker

  • Hi Ryker,

It is generally recommended that the two input pins are connected and able to support the same amount of power. TI has validated this design when the input pins are shorted together as shown in the datasheet 10.2 layout example.

While it may function, the device would have to be operated at the customer's risk as the datasheet clearly intends for these pins to be shorted with wide traces to avoid extra inductance and resistance on input. Extra inductance on either of the input pins will also result in worse EMI and efficiency performance. In short, limiting the ability for sufficient current to flow to the input pins can negatively affect the device's performance overall.

    Thank you,

    Joshua Austria
