BQ76907EVM: no device acknowledge on I2C

Part Number: BQ76907EVM

Tool/software:

My EVM worked properly for about 2 weeks. Just for reading the stack voltages and trying SLEEP and FET_ENABLE.

then I attempted to initiate balancing on 1 cell (sending 0x04 for chosing 2nd or 3rd cell - I don't mind)

after sending the command, communication broke down "forever". furthermore, the chip started discharging all cells at once.

in the status line of the Battery Management Studio, I can read „Command error sending data : No acknowledge from device.”

in the meanwhile, I have the device unpowered and fully disconnected since 2 days, so POR was my 1st idea, but this did not help either.

  • Hi,

We are not sure what happened to your EVM, but look like something got damage on your side. We have not heard of this issue before, and we plus multiple customers used this EVM consistently for months (years). My recommendation will be to debug your system to try to pin-point what was damage. Maybe a short or overvoltage, might have cause something to die. The part will not be damage just for sending a cell balancing command, so something else must be going on.

  • the topic can be closed, it apparently was a faulty wiring that introduced itself during testing
