TPS1H200A-Q1: Current relate Quarry

Part Number: TPS1H200A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS272C45

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

we thought to use TPS1H200A-Q1 single channel high-side power switch for below requirement,

Input is 24V@5A

As per data sheet  ICL(int) ( Internal current limit ) max is up to 6A if we connect CL to GND, Which mean we can able to operate at 24@5A  condition right? it is slightly more  than TYP current.

But the product page mentioned MAX current up to 5A only

I want to know we can able to achieve 24v@5A condition by using TPS1H200A-Q1 part?

  • Praven,

The 5A number is the current limit number. This is meant for transient events such as capacitive inrush which should be considered fault conditions. If you run the device at 5A for any sustained current then the device will likely go into a thermal shutdown. Furthermore, the "internal current limit" is meant as more of a failsafe condition if the capacitor on the CL pin is damaged/compromised. Ideally, you would actually set the current limit to an appropriate value.

If you want to do 24V at 5A nominal, the TPS27S08 would be the better bet here as it can handle the higher nominal load currents. The TPS272C45 with the outputs paralleled would also be a potential option here.

    Best Regards,
    Tim
