Hi,

I have a query regarding the reference design: TIDA-010938. We need to design a on grid solar inverter for 5kW having the following features:

1. MPPT with Boost Converter (Non-isolated DC-DC Converter)

2. Feature for charger for Battery storage system (Charger concept)

3. Feature of Bi directional converter for connecting AC Grid and AC load

4. MCU for controlling all sections (DC-DC with MPPT, Bi-directional DC-DC for battery charger and DC-AC converter), we can go with single MCU or two MCUs

5. Provision for CAN

Can we use TIDA-010938 reference design for scaling down to 5kW? Please reply

Hi Ajay,

The DC/AC convertert stage on TIDA-010938 is rated for 4.6kW towards the grid. So this fits very well with your application!

The 10kW rating comes from the input stage and the battery stage. Each boost stage for a string input is rated for 5kW each and the bidirectional DC/DC for battery is rated for 10kW.

I have one more question. Is there an option for switching the output of DC-AC converter which can support for both Grid and AC househole loads at the same time?

Yes it can be configured that. You can find it in the schematic available on ti.com TIDA-010938 reference design | TI.com under design files.

Hi Ajay,

The software is available for both TMS320F280039C and P55 under C2000WARE-DIGITALPOWER-SDK Software development kit (SDK) | TI.com. In case you want to use any other MCU, you will need to check with the peripherals, available resources, performance etc. If you have any more questions regarding this, you can open another thread, where the right people will get back to you.

Can I provide a dedicated MCU for inverter section and a MCU for MPPT boost and battery charging section?

Yes you can do it that way. You can use a different MCU in that case. Please open a separate thread to discuss this in more detail, explaining your requirements.
