TPSM33625EVM: Deivce damage & observation on Layout for EVM

Part Number: TPSM33625EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM33625

Tool/software:

Hi...

One of my customer has used TPSM33625 for their one of the design. Their Max. input voltage is 29.5V & they have observed failures with some of the module. We have tested with various configuration of input voltage but we were not able to create the issue.

They have given the manucfacturing job to outside agency & as per them they have followed the soldering profile as mentioned for the device guideline. After fresh resoldering manually at customer end they observed that failure rate has decreased but still not able to reproduce the issue.

One of the query from customer is on layout guideline after observing the layout for TPSM33625 EVM. One of the ground pin layout is made with the thin trace to ground pad underneath the device, why trace is not as same width of the pad ?what is the reason behind this?

We have tested with the input voltage as high as 32V as well & given the continous ON/OFF - ON/OFF but still device is working fine without any issue with new soldered device. Any input from your side which we can try to find out the reason will helps.

Mitesh

  • Hi Mitesh,

I believe that trace is just a ground pour that fills the available space due to the Altium rules that were used when designing the board. As long as the pin is connected with enough copper to the ground via underneath the device, it should be fine.

Other than that, please share your layout and schematic so we may better assist you.

    Thank you,
