TPS7A96: TPS7A96 zero volt output operation

Part Number: TPS7A96
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A94

Tool/software:

Hello colleagues,

I wonder if TPS7A96/94 chips output can go down to 0V. In TI selection table it is so but in datasheet there is some kind of other information.

TPS7A96:

TPS7A94 is said to be capable of 0V in the introduction, but again 0.4V in recommended operation conditions:

Also for both chips Table 8-3. Recommended RNR/SS Values is defined only from 0.4V

Thank you for clarification

  • Hi Maksim,

Thanks for asking us about this. I would consider 0.4V to be lower limit. The recommended operating conditions table is more authoritative and contains the actual range for the spec. The datasheet also mentions 0.4 V as a minimum elsewhere in the detailed description, so I will look into changing 0V values on my side.

That being said, you usually can get it to regulate outside the recommended operating conditions range, it just won't be guaranteed to operate within the electrical characteristics table limits.

    Best,

    Gregory Thompson
