LMR43620-Q1: Effect of boot resistor addition on IC operation

Part Number: LMR43620-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using LMR43620MSC3RPERQ1 variant IC in one of our products.

However, we have introduced a resistor 13.3Ohm in series with the boot capacitor as seen in the below image:

This resistor is added to mitigate the EMI issues we were facing, especially ringing at rising and falling edges of the SW node voltage

Could this resistor affect the operation of the IC in any way for different operating conditions like normal/ CCM/ DCM(heavy/ light) load conditions?

Can there be any other issue (eg. temp. rise) regarding the IC performance due to this resistor addition?

Please confirm.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

As this resistor is essentially slowing down your SW node rise time, you are leaving the high side FET on for a longer amount of time. This may result in increased heat, but if this is not an observed issue with your application, this should be acceptable.

Your efficiency may also take a small dip as you are slowing down the SW node.

    Thank you,

    Joshua Austria
