I am currently evaluating the BQ27427YZFR battery fuel gauge IC for integration into a battery-powered application. As part of our design review process, I would like to confirm the compatibility of this IC with various battery chemistries.

In particular, could you please clarify whether the BQ27427YZFR is capable of accurately monitoring the voltage and state of charge of Li-SOCl₂ (Lithium Thionyl Chloride) batteries?

Hello Sanee,

The BQ27427 has access to three chemID natively and not the entire chemID library. The only way for the user to see if the cell is compatible with one of the three chemID's would be through using the GPCCHEM tool. Typically we require the chemID to have up to a 3% difference match in order to get accurate SOC measurements.

Hello Sanee,

For that battery chemistry we have only one gauge that works with that chemistry and its the BQ35100. www.ti.com/.../BQ35100

Due to space constraint in our application, We can't use BQ35100 so if we will not consider SOC then can BQ27427 be able to monitor voltage of Li-SOCl₂ (Lithium Thionyl Chloride) batteries?(only Battery voltage, no SOC)

Hello Sanee,

If you do not care for SOC readings and only care about cell voltage readings then yes the BQ27427 can be used for accurate cell voltage readings.
