Hi,

I am designing 2 phase buck-boost converter with LM5171-Q1. I need to calculate how much power loss happens in IC. Can you please share equations or document regarding this. Note this is not regarding loss calculation of DC-DC converter, this is only the LM5171-Q1 IC power dissipation.I am using external regulated 10V supply as VCC.

Thanks for using E2E!

You can use the QuickStart calculator https://www.ti.com/tool/download/LM5171-CALC to quickly check how's the power losses look like. Besides, want to remind that LM5171 is bi-directional Buck/Boost controller instead of Buck boost controller. If you want to use buck boost, then LM51770 will be needed. Thanks.

But I am looking for Power loss in LM5171-Q1 IC. The shared calculator doesn't not have it. It has only MOSFET loss calculation. I want to calculate power dissipation in Controller IC.

Hi Archin,

Please refer to datasheet 7.2.1.2.8 Bias Supply.

The gate driver loss is not fully dissipated in LM5171. However, this is a good start point.
