TPS25763-Q1: GUI configuration

Part Number: TPS25763-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear team

1. What does USBCommCapableAsDevice/Host indicate? If we only enable "USBCommCapableAsDevice" does TPS25763-Q1 only accept UFP data role? Or is there another meaning?

2. What is the difference between initiate and Process of data role swap to UFP? Can we configure TPS25763 to only UFP as datarole and source only for power role? if yes, please let me know whole relative settings we need to configure.

3. I learned some USB-C device (like iPad with USB-C port) cannot accept "data role swap" or "power role swap." Can TPS25763 establish the communication as Power-source and data-UFP with like that devices?

best regards,
Yuto Kitamura

  • Hi Kitamura san,

    1. What does USBCommCapableAsDevice/Host indicate? If we only enable "USBCommCapableAsDevice" does TPS25763-Q1 only accept UFP data role? Or is there another meaning?

This directly correlates to the "USB Communications Capable" bit of PDOs (bit 26).

    2. What is the difference between initiate and Process of data role swap to UFP? Can we configure TPS25763 to only UFP as datarole and source only for power role?

Process means we will swap to UFP if the other end of the cable requests a role swap.  Initiate means we will immediately request to swap to UFP if we connect as DFP.

Per USB spec, a power source must initially assume the role of data host.  So we would need to check both Initiate and Process swap to UFP.  Note the swap is only succesfull if the sink agrees.

I'm not certain.  Is the iPad capable of acting as data host?
