TPS653860-Q1: Resetting the MCU when Reprogramming or debugging the MCU after Enabled the Watchdog in PMIC

Part Number: TPS653860-Q1

Tool/software:

Actually, we are using this Chip in Inverter based applications, after enabled the QA watchdog in this chip, I tried to reprogram or debugging the SW or reset using the Trace32(Lauterbach) debugger, the TPS653860-Q1 chip is going into reset MCU state (this is expected behaviour as we are not serving the QA watchdog). I understood that after reading the datasheet if assert the SCLK pin high greater the tpwr_hld time watchdog will go into long window and you can flash the SW.

but I am facing an issue after flashing the SW where Watchdog already enabled, if i tried to reprogram or debugging the SW or reset using the Trace32(Lauterbach) debugger as i mentioned this is going into reset MCU state, and cut of the power to MCU, after some time it is not even consuming current. I observed one thing is I just stopped the power supply and Switched on the power supply immediately means (less than 10 seconds) the board is not drawing the current (0 m amps). if we do continuously like this the board is going into unrecoverable state.

my requirement is I want to debug the SW after enabled the watchdog is possible or not? (Here I want to debug the PMIC IC Registers)

  • Hi Upendra,

As this is an NDA device, I can't give too much detail on the public forums. Reach out to your local field applications engineer for more support. They can support further or reach out to me for more help. With that being said, to try and help you with your problem, if you service the WDT within the correct timing windows you should still be able to read and write to the PMIC registers. Refer to section 8.12.4 in the datasheet for instructions on how to figure out the timing windows. If you are still getting familiar with the device, I suggest starting with trigger mode to get familiar with the timing windows and to free up SPI communications. Then moving on to Q&A once you are comfortable working with the WDT.

  • can you please let me know how to reach out to you?

  • Hi Upendra,

You can reach me at m-hernandez5@ti.com . It's typically better if you go through the field apps engineer assigned to your company or region and give them my information. If you reach out to me directly there's going to be a bit of a delay as I pull in more people and check NDA's. Feel free to take whichever course of action you feel is best.
