TPS65987D: TPS65987DDHRSHR and TPD6S300A

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB564RNQEVM, TPD6S300

Tool/software:

I'm working on a Type-C Display project supporting VBUS up to 20V.

Using TUSB564RNQEVM, based on the TPS65987DDHRSHR I have already got a DisplayPort Alt Mode connection from my HP ProBook 450 G9. However, trying to supply the TUSB564RNQEVM from the Ansmann Home Charger 247PD or the  docking station HP Thunderbolt Dock 120 W G4, we have already managed to damage two evalboards. Would you reccomend using the TPD6S300 USB Type-C Overvoltage and IEC ESD Protection Evaluation Module?

  • Hi Eduard,

Yes, we typically recommend using the TPD6S300 for VBUS short to CC/SBU protection and for the ESD diodes for DP/DM. In addition, we typically recommend a 22-V TVS diode on VBUS to protect the IC from large VBUS spikes.

I'm not sure how the board is being damaged, but this would help protect the signals mentioned.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
