BQ25756EVM: Device ACK Error

Part Number: BQ25756EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , EV2400

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am trying to connect the BQ25756EVM to the BQstudio GUI using EV2400 board. When I am trying to read the registers it is giving a "Device ACK error" (attached screenshot). I have followed all the setup steps mentioned in the user guide and have also tried the following -

- Manual and immediate update modes

- Both D6(6B) and D4(6A) I2C addresses

- Updated the EV2400 firmware to latest version v0.28.

I am also not sure about the following -

- Should I connect a voltage source/electronic load to the board as well? I haven't connected a voltage source on J1 as the voltage source should be turned off before connecting EV2400 as per the user manual.

- I did not remove the JP13 jumper before connecting the EV2400 board in the first few attempts but now I have removed it and it is showing the same error. Would the board get damaged if JP13 is not removed?

Can somebody help me solve this error?

Best regards,

Datta

  • Hi Datta,

Thanks for working with this. I2C will not work without power to the EVM. Connect the EV2400, remove JP13 to disable charge, then power on the board. I do not believe that leaving JP13 installed will damage the board.

One other thing that I have found while using the EV2400 with BQStudio: Connect the EV2400 to the computer via USB prior to opening the BQStudio application. Otherwise, following all other steps properly will always result in a device ack error.

Let me know if this answer helps solve the problem.

    Best,
    Michael
