LP2981A: Interpreting the LP2981-N datasheet Revised February 2025

We have a part, LP2981AIM5-5.0, with a date code 2151 in the SOT-23-5 package.

In the datasheet, there are references to A-grade legacy chip, standard-grade legacy chip and new chip. What chip should i reference (A-grade, standard legacy or new)?

So if my part is an LP2981A, that means A-Grade? Or does it mean standard-grade?

Thank you very much for your assistance. We are investigating a preconditioning temperature cycling profile for this part and were also wondering if exposure to the maximum and minimum storage temperatures (-65C to +150C) could cause Vout fluctuations beyond the datasheet specification of +/- 0.75%. This would be unbiased (unpowered) testing. we are trying to precondition parts but not induce damage. If this is not acceptable, what would an acceptable unbiased temperature cycling range be?

Hello Dan,

We highly recommend to isolate pin 4 and not be connected as specified in table 4-1 Pin functions. This pin can be sensitive to noise coupling thru traces or vias and must be isolated.

If the temperature preconditioning is performed unbiased / unpowered, should pin 4 still be isolated?

Hello Dan,

If the device is not powered, there is no need to isolate pin 4. Only when the device is operational, pin 4 must be isolated from external signals and from any noise coupled thru EMI.
