LM74700-Q1: Max reverse current

Part Number: LM74700-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

In below spec, can I say the max reverse current that is -11mV/Rds(on)?

Currently, customer has -200mA on 12V and we would like to use ideal diode controller + NFET to block the reverse current, but it looks like that it may still pass through a little of 11mV/Rds(on)?

Regards,

Roy

  • Hi Roy,

Max reverse current indeed is -11mV/RDS_ON

I am unsure if I understood your second statement.

    Can you elaborate?

    Regards,

    Shiven Dhir

  • Hi Shiven,

Thanks for comments. For example, if NFET Rds(on) that we used is 11mohm.

For the threshold for RCB would be -11mV/11m = -1A

As you can see below, there was negative current initially. (-200mA) Does it mean LM74700-Q1 can't block the current?

    Regards,
    Roy

  • Hi Roy,

Controller can block lower current as well due to linear regulation scheme.

-11mV/RDS_ON is the max reverse current. Whereas due to linear regulation, FET may not operate at RDS_ON all the time.

  • Hi Shiven,

Not sure the comments. Do you mean that it's the maximum reverse current would be happened?

-11mV/RDS_ON is the max reverse current.

May you help comment more detailed?

Currently, customer has initial negative current around -200mA and -150mA when doing load transient. We would like to check if LM74700 can block it completely or not.

As I know, only VAC < -11mV, the MOS would fully turn off to avoid reverse current. Do you mean that the reverse current would be lower in regulated conduction mode?

    Regards,

    Roy

  • Hi Roy,

Your understanding is correct. Reverse current will be lower in regulated conduction mode.

Yes, -150mA or -200mA can also be blocked.
