TPS4810-Q1: safety use

Part Number: TPS4810-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS4800-Q1

Tool/software:

Good afternoon,
We have an application where we want to cut off a PWM signal, essentially stopping the machine. To achieve a safe controlled stopped, we need to PWM the signal as we slow it down (so relays are out of the question). Cutting the signal off is safety critical (SIL 2 / Pl d), we will be using redundant parts to achieve this.

We have bought a development board for TPS4810-Q1 which works well, and we are quite happy with the results in development.

There are FIT reports on your website, however it is written that they shouldn't be used for safety reliability calculation.

The TPS4810-Q1 "Functional Safety FIT Rate, FMD and Pin FMA" implies that the product can be used for functional safety and provides FIT Rates and failure mode distribution which is excellent!

However it also mentions "TPS4800-Q1 was developed using a quality-managed development process, but was not developed in accordance with the IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 standards".

Can this device be used for safety applications ? If not, is there a device that could replace it that can be used for safety application?

Cheers Joe
