TPS784-Q1: Load transient performance and choice of faster LDO

Part Number: TPS784-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A21-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Customer is facing issue of voltage dip when the LDO gets loaded from no load condition to 100-200mA. Is this a design issue (choice of input/output capacitors)? And do we have any faster automotive-grade LDOs for 300mA and 500mA?

Regards,
Param

  • Hi Param,

A transient voltage dip is expected under a load transient and while it can be improved by larger output capacitors, but a dip similar in magnitude to the below waveform is expected. (Sourced from the TPS784-Q1 datasheet)

If a voltage dip of this size is concern for the customer, then a looking into a better part may be ideal.

I've looped in marketing to help promote a faster automative part.

  • Hello Param,

    Thanks for your reach out!

We have TPS7A21-Q1 which has the best transient performance, it can support 500mA output current.
