TPS53840: Auto power on

Part Number: TPS53840

Tool/software:

Hi

I would like to inquire about Enable.
After supplying VIN power, I think it needs to use I2C and I3C of VR_EN pin to turn it on. If I send a signal to VR_EN pin once, will it turn on when I power to VIN after that?

How does auto power on  work? Does it automatically turn on when the VIN turns on regardless of the EN pin?

Thanks

  • Hi David,

If you have access to the JEDEC site you can download the JEDEC specification and it will detail the auto-on feature.

All auto-on feature means is once the input supplies are in a valid state the PMIC will enable on its own, without the need for an I2C command or EN pin transition action.

There are 3 methods to enable:

    1. I2C: PMIC will enable once the VR_Enable command is set.

    2. EN pin: PMIC will enable once the EN pin is set HIGH.

    3. Auto-On: PMIC will enable once the input supplies are in a valid state.

Please refer to JEDEC specification and/or TI datasheet Register 0x5F for more detail on the EN pin and Auto-On feature.

  • Hi Sam

    Thanks for your support.

I would like to ask you additional questions about the automatic power-on function.
Can I turn on the power if I apply the VR_EN pin high without controlling it with I2C?

    Thanks

  • Hi David,

Yes, the VR_EN pin can enable the outputs of the PMIC without the need for an I2C command. However the PMIC needs to be configured with this configuration and that is done through Reg0x5F.
