Tool/software:
I am using a TPS61087 to boost 5V to +/-12V. I recently received a prototype run of 15 PCBs and on 4 of the boards my 12V power supply failed to regulate. The output voltage would only rise to within a diode drop of the input voltage, and I saw no activity on the SW pins. I eventually saw that the voltage on the soft start pin was staying at .3V and removed the .1uF capacitor connected to the pin, which cause the TPS61087 to begin switching. With no capacitor soldered on the board the soft start pin will rise all the way to 5V, but if I solder any value capacitor that I have on hand to the trace it immediately stops switching again. Has anyone run into a similar problem before? Any ideas what might be causing this?
