TPS1685EVM: can't auto-retry when OCP triggered

Part Number: TPS1685EVM

Tool/software:

Dear TI

I removed 1pcs TPS16850 from EVM and test over current function of EVM by E-load, after the OCP was triggered and load stopped,

1. Why did the output voltage rise to approximately 7V?

2. The TPS16850 has an auto-retry function. It didn't work for OCP, but it did work for UVP. Why?"

  • Hi Jims,

    1. That 7V is due to leakage from vdd pin. In actual application voltage will not build upto 7V because there will be some load to that will consume that leakage current .

    2. UVP is recoverable fault irrespective of latch off and rety variant . When vin goes back above uvp threshold device can start again.

    3. On EVM TPS16851 is present, latch off variant.

  • Hi Kunal,

Thank you for the information, I understand item 1 and 2, but the IC on the EVM is marked P16850, could you help confirm whether it is TPS16850 or TPS16851?

  • Hi,

Please ignore marking as it is proto marking.  But it is final silicon and latched variant, also mentioned in user guide.
