[FAQ] BQ25611D: What is ship mode and how do I enter and exit it in BQ2561x?

Part Number: BQ25611D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25619, BQ25618,

Tool/software:

The BQ2561x has a mode to minimize quiescent current for the BQ25611D, BQ25618/E, and BQ25619/E from the battery in cases when the system load is not needed to be powered by the battery. A common example involves shipping a product that does not need to power the system and would rather retain as much battery capacity as possible in transport. Doing this will reduce the quiescent current from the battery and allow the battery to hold a higher state of charge.

This mode is called ship mode and can be activated via I2C. The typical current from the battery at this time is 7 uA. When the BATFET_DIS bit is set, the BATFET will turn off according to the timing set in BATFET_DLY bit (whether immediately or 10s delay).

To exit ship mode, attach an adapter, clear BATFET_DIS bit, set REG_RST bit, or hold /QON pin low for between 0.9s or 1.3s.
