TPS23758EVM-080: Help

Part Number: TPS23758EVM-080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23758,

Tool/software:

I plan to adjust the voltage divider on the FB pin so that the output voltage is approximately 3.65 V.
Would the synchronous rectifier on the transformer still function with this change?
And would the TPS23758 still work reliably with regard to the resulting voltage on the VCC pin?
Another question is whether galvanic isolation on the DC-DC converter is absolutely necessary according to the IEEE standard. Is reverse polarity protection necessary if a proprietary cable is used at the input?

  • Hi Karlo,

    Thanks for reaching out!

We will check your question and get back by this week.

  • Hi Karlo,

Since TPS23758 uses primary side regulation. AUX is used to do the output regulation. There is a concern when using LDT1018-50R. It has PRI:SEC:AUX:BIAS = 6:1:2.25:1, which will make the sync FET turn on voltage only 3.65V and VCC only 8.23V.  The VCC can be under the UVLO and the FET could be below Vth.

If you can make a transformer with PRI:SEC:AUX:BIAS = 9:1:3:1.6, you can use this transformer on TPS23758EVM-080 without changing the FB resistor divider.

    Best regards,

    Diang
