TPS61381-Q1: Boost converter output capacitor selection

Part Number: TPS61381-Q1

Tool/software:

This here is a general question in design of boost converter. In the document slva372d it is mentioned that the output capacitor is calculated as Cout = (Iout*D)/F *delta(V). I understand that delta(V) here is the ripple voltage. Is this delta(V) the rms ripple or peak to peak ripple value.

For eg: if i have a requirement for the rms output ripple to be 50mV then can i directly plug this into the equation or have to find the peak to peak value and insert into the equation?

  • Hi Preerag,

The delta V is peak to peak value. But Vout ripple is also greatly affected by ESR and the equation is only an ideal equation. So please do not expect a very accurate result for this equation.

    Best Regards,
