UCC27712-Q1: Operation in 100% duty for high side MOSFET in boost converter

Hi,

I am designing a synchronous boost converter. Input voltage is 8V, output voltage is 12V with load current of 360A.

Input source voltage range is 8-16V. When battery voltage is more than 12V, I need to keep high switch continuous ON and low side switch continues OFF to get Vout=Vin.

If this gate driver capable to provide 100% duty for high side switch? Or does this have duty limitation of bootstrap circuit.

  • Hi Archin,

    The driver can be used with 100% duty cycle as long as HB-HS can be above UVLO of the high side. This is challenging because if the turn on time is very long, this will discharge the bootstrap capacitor. There are many options to bias the driver which are detailed in the FAQ "How to bias the high side of a half-bridge gate driver and why". This FAQ details each of the options to bias the high side of the driver, and links to applications notes which 

    It also seems you are using a 620V driver for a 12V bus. There is nothing wrong with this, but you might consider a 120V driver as an alternative. One recommendation is the UCC27211A-Q1.
