BQ76952: Wire Fault Feature

Part Number: BQ76952

Tool/software:

Dear TI Expert,

We have tested wire fault feature in standalone BMS of 16 cells in series. We have opened cell no. 12 wire and observed the behavior of the BMS. We found that CUV fault is latched but COV swings between COV fault and COV recovery. Video clip is attached for your reference.

Consequences -:

1. We have connected charger which provide charging voltage continuously.

2. Battery is being charged infinitely for the period COV swings to recovery.

Hence, our customer is refusing out to take our BMS.

Please suggest remedies.

Thanks

  • Hello Rahul,

What are the threshold settings you have configured for the undervoltage/overvoltage protections and PFs? What is the value of your overvoltage hysteresis as well? And are you seeing the voltage measured dropping below that overvoltage threshold - hysteresis value?

It is expected for the open wired cell's voltage to decrease and eventually trigger a CUV protection fault. It is also expected for the cell above to trigger a COV protection fault. I see that the PF Status A is triggered which is also a good sign. This thread goes into more detail which may be useful to refer to.
