UCC24624: UCC24624 operate with separate gate driver to control SR

Part Number: UCC24624

Tool/software:

Hi Experts,

My customer is evaluating UCC24624 in an industry power module:

Secondary voltage: 70V

Secondary RMS current: 330A

Switching Frequency: 30K-100KHz

Since the power rating is high. We need to use UCC24624 to driver a separate gate driver to control SR MOSFET. I noticed that UCC24624 Vgs output will decrease to regulate Vds to VTHREG. So, with cooperate gate driver. This negative feedback may not work. Do you have any idea to solve this problem? Thanks!

BR, Travis

  • Hello Travis,

That is a lot of power/current to control with a tiny little analog controller.

I assume that there will be many MOSFETs in parallel to handle 330A, and the UCC24624 gate drive must be buffered to all of them.

I suggest to use one or more NPN/PNP totem-pole buffer-drivers so that the controller's lower VGx voltage can be transmitted through the P-N base- junctions of the buffer and still maintain the proportional gate-drive function to the SR FETs.

I think that a bigger problem may be to properly sense the Vds of all MOSFETs in parallel without adding the effects of stray inductance to the sensing.
Take great care in the proper layout of these semiconductors.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
