BQ25730: Could you please recommend some charger ICs for LFP battery charging (multiple cells in series)

Part Number: BQ25730
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25720, , BQ25798, BQ24630

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am looking for a charger IC that is able to charge/manage multiple cells in series (2 to 4) for LFP (LiFeSO4) battery, I found some products as BQ25730, BQ25720, BQ25798 and BQ24630 by searching in the online catalog of Ti. But when I read the datasheets of these chargers, none of the above is a dedicated charger IC for LFP.  And in the application note 'sluaar1 LiFePO4 Design Considerations', it is mentioned that the charging profile is a little different for LFP and Li-ion/Lipo.

I am just wondering if Ti has any multiple cell charger ICs dedicated to LFP or the ICs mentioned above can be well fitted to use on charging LFP with defining the charging voltage to a compatible value for LFPs.

Please advise.

Thanks.

  • Hi, Jerry,

BQ25720 is a multi-chemistry charger same as other charger ICs.  It allows the user to set the max charge voltage by a register. It does require a host controller to send out a command in order to customize the charge profile.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Tiger
