TPS76201: Obsolete and now again Active

Part Number: TPS76201

Tool/software:

Hi TI team,

Just to brief about my concern-

Previously TI released that the LDO- TPS76201 got obsolete and as a customer, you can only have last time buy(LTB).

Hence, we ordered LTB and asked TI to suggest alternate which matched with our requirements and we even started validating the alternate- TPS76901.

Now, suddenly which is shocking too for us where I noticed that the part- TPS76201 is active now and also we came to know from our team that the call for obsolescence was retracted. I need answers for 2 strong questions:

1) What is the solid reason for TI to make LDO- TPS76201 obsolete previously and suddenly back to active status? What are the reasons to do so.

2) As the LDOTPS76201 is retracted and put in active stage now, we want to know for how many weeks/years will it be active or is it activated only for LTB ?

Hoping a speedy reply from TI team.

Best Regards

A Karthikeyan

  • Hey Karthikeyan-

    1. Part of TI's long-term manufacturing strategy includes transitioning older products to newer, more efficient technologies and optimizing our manufacturing footprint. With these transitions, we will utilize our growing 300mm capacity and optimize our existing 200mm capacity. Devices on older technologies which are lower on the volume side were planned for LTB initially because they were not planned for further silicon refresh/ technology transition.

    2. Based on customer feedback and the importance we place on longevity, the majority of DFAB and SFAB parts will remain orderable so that we can best support production needs for the duration of projects' lifecycles. With this,  product discontinuation notices (PDNs) previously sent related to DFAB or SFAB were retracted. TPS76201 will stay active.

    Hopefully this answers your questions.

    Thanks,

    Su
