TPS54821: EN input open collector logic?

Part Number: TPS54821

Tool/software:

Hi

"The EN pin has an internal pull-up current source, allowing the user to float the EN pin for enabling the device. If an application requires controlling the EN pin, use open drain or open collector output logic to interface with the pin."

I don't quite understand what I need to do. Can I not use push-pull logic? I need to control the operation of the device from an MCU.

  • Hi Mikko,

for you case your need to use open drain or open collector output logic. An open-drain or open-collector output pin is driven by a single transistor, which pulls the pin to only one voltage (generally, to ground). When the output device is off, the pin is left floating (open, or hi-z). A common example is an n-channel transistor which pulls the signal to ground when the transistor is on or leaves it open when the transistor is off.

    Thanks!
