My customer is looking for a buck-boost Lithium-Ion battery charger for the following requirements. They are thinking around BQ24179 now but they would like to hear TI expert opinion. What BQ devise does TI think best for their requirements?
Input voltage VIN: 9V to 25.2V
Output voltage Vo/IO: 16.8V/2.3A
Operating mode: What can be operated on the output CCCV
Output connected load: Lithium-ion battery (Nominal voltage: 14.8V, charge voltage/current: 16.8V/2.3A)
Switching element: Both internal FET type and external type can be used
Shape: As small as possible.

Hi K.Hirano,

BQ24179 is a good choice except its max recommended operating voltage is 24V. Its input OVP protection rising and falling thresholds are shown below

The next option is BQ25730 with external FETs, which is a much a much larger solution.

Thank you for your response.
My customer overlooked Vin(max) is 24V.
What BQ devices having internal FET and Vin(max) = 28V, do you recommend best?

Unfortunately, TI currently doesn't have an integrated FET charger with Vin(max) up to 28V. I am moving this discussion to email.
