TPS55289-Q1: Question about dead time of TPS55289-Q1

Part Number: TPS55289-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer asked about dead time of TPS55289-Q1.

Customer's applicaton is highly dependant on switching efficiency, so dead time is very important.

Do you have any document or test results that there is definitely no dead time while TPS55289-Q1 is operating?

Please check this issue. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

TPS55289-Q1 can support switching frequency from 200kHz to 2.2MHz by programming Fsw pin resistance. The dead time exists with above switching frequency when device is operating. No issue.

  • Dear Bryce,

    Thank you for your support.

You mean that dead time is essentially exists while TPS55289-Q1 is operating, but there are no issues related to switching efficiency?

I thought that there might be some losses of efficiency if dead time exists while operating.

    Please check this issue. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hi Chase,

I don't know what issue do you mean?

Dead time will of course exist otherwise the MOSFETs on the bridge would have shoot-through risks. It will cause some loss, but the loss is tiny compared with switching losses.

    Bryce
