BQ4050: PRES not working with NR bit set low

Part Number: BQ4050

Tool/software:

I am working on a removable battery pack that grounds the pres pin when connected to the system.

In my current firmware I've been working on, PRES in the operation status register is always high and charge and discharge FETs are always on.

I have the NR bit set low so i would expect it to change when the pin is not grounded.

Is there any other setting that could have this effect?

I pulled the default firmware from an eval board and programmed my battery pack with it and the PRES status updates as expected when the PRES pin is grounded/not grounded.

I attached the .srec file from my pack.

  • I put the firmware from the battery pack on to the eval board and everything is working as expected.

I believe I found the problem when I removed the BQ4050 from the board. The solder mask under the IC is aligned poorly. It seems there is a very small short to the ground next to the pin. I did also notice when measuring the resistance from the pres pin to gnd, the resistance was jumping around erratically.
