TPS388C0-Q1: Possible to clear watchdog via i2c?

Part Number: TPS388C0-Q1

Tool/software:

I'd like to use this power supervisor chip to monitor voltages and to act as a microprocessor watchdog via i2c.

Is it possible to clear the watchdog via i2c instead of WDI?

I couldn't find any reference to that behavior in the datasheet.

Maybe simply disabling and then re-enabling the watchdog via i2c would reset the timer?

Is there somewhere in the datasheet I'm missing that would explain that turning the watchdog off and on again would be a way to "kick" the watchdog via i2c?

  • Hi Matt,

You cannot provide WDI pulses/inputs via the I2C for the TPS388C0-Q1 device. However, we do have a questions and answer (Q&A) watchdog which provides watchdog exchanges via the I2C https://www.ti.com/product/TPS389C03-Q1. It is a more complex exchange than the typical timeout or window watchdog, information on the Q&A watchdog exchange can be found starting on page 21 of the datasheet.

We do not recommend disabling and enabling the watchdog as a viable method to pet the watchdog.

    Thanks,
    Joshua

  • Thank you. I guess the reason I overlooked that part is because I was having difficulty sourcing it.

I didn't realize I can order directly from TI.

This part should suit me well.

    Thank you!
