BQ79616: BQ79616 UART communications to chip works fine. Only sporadic receiving message

Part Number: BQ79616
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7721

Tool/software:

MCU is connected to the BQ79616 UART using an ISO7721

.

Ping/wake, sending messages and auto-addressing works fine and has been demonstrated by toggle-ing a GPIO and TSREF. However, when trying to read (any) register, whether single read or broadcast read, only very sporadically can I see some evidence of a 1Mbps transmission on the BQ TX pin. Voltages look all stable and correct (CVDD, DVDD, LDOIN, NEG5V). What could be causing it and/or should I be checking next?
