[FAQ] BQ76907: Functional Differences between BQ76907 and BQ76930/BQ76942

Part Number: BQ76907
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930, BQ76942

Tool/software:

I want to use a battery monitor IC for 7 LFP cells in series. I came across these two ICs: BQ76907 and BQ76930/BQ76942. Looking from top level both of them seem to serve similar purpose. What are the key differences between these two ICs?

  • Hello Pratyush,

I recommend looking more in the datasheets/features of the product details between all 3 for more specifics, however, I can provide a general difference. All of these devices are cell monitors and can cell balance with various protections. For a battery monitor IC for 7S, I would recommend the BQ76907 or BQ76942.

BQ76930 is a low-side FET driver monitor that can support 6-10S cells. This is an older device that we typically do not recommend anymore.

BQ76942 is a high-side FET driver monitor that can support 3-10S cells. The is a newer monitor that the user can OTP their own configuration

BQ76907 is our newest low-side FET driver monitor that supports 2-7S cells. There is a Q1 version of this device as well if that is desired. This device can only be OTP'd by TI with the desired settings, but the user can also program their desired settings with a MCU as well (they will need to reprogram the configuration if the device resets).

    Best Regards,
    Alexis
