BQ25895: Input current limit when ICO is enabled versus disabled

Hello all,

I have configured the BQ25895 to use the ILIM pin to set my input current limit to 1.5A. IINLIM is set to 3.25A. D+ and D- are shorted in my implementation since I do not need USB compatibility.

If I have ICO disabled my understanding is that the actual input current limit will be the lower value between the ILIM pin and IINLIM register value. So in this case it is 1.5A. If ICO is enabled my understanding is that the actual input current limit will be the lower value between ILIM pin and IDPM_LIM register value NOT IINLIM. Is this understanding correct?

Hi,

When ICO is disabled, the actual input current limit is the lower limit set by ILIM pin (when EN_ILIM bit is high) or IIINLIM register bits.

When ICO is enabled, it depends. Please refer to https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva812c/slva812c.pdf

For the case of ICO enabled.

What if I only have an IINDPM event and not VINDPM. I've seen IDPM_STAT and ICO_OPTIMIZED be set to 1 at the same time while VDPM_STAT was 0

Hi,

Referring to 8.2.4 Input Current Optimizer (ICO), The actual input current limit used by the Section 8.2.6.2 is reported in IDPM_LIM register while Input Current Optimizer is enabled (ICO_EN = 1)
