TPS61288: The output capacitor

Part Number: TPS61288

Tool/software:

Hi TI experts,

I notice the output capacitors in tps61288 reference circuit are 6*22uF.

If I only place 2*10uF at Vout because of the limitation in pcb spacing, in addition to increase power ripple, what other issues might occur?

My design

Vin = 3.3v

Vout = 11.68v

Iout = 1A(max)

Thanks.

  • Hi WEN-HSIN,

    Too small output capacitance would have a risk of instability, especially at light load. We recommend at least 10uF output capacitance for TPS61288, this 10uF is effective capacitance not nominal capacitance, the ceramic capacitor usually have DC bias effect, please check the capacitor DC characteristics to get the effective capacitance, usually I think effective capacitance of 2*10uF(nominal) would not as high as 10uF(effective), so more output capacitor may need here.

    Regards,
