Hi,

I wish to send the command read/write with my own data to VCU118 device (which has SMBus protocol implemented) using Fusion GUI through USB-to-GPIO2 device in the above shown format. How can I do it? Please help with images if you have some.

Hi Prakash,

1. Open up Fusion Digital Power Designer

2. Click I2C GUI from the main menu

...

3. Click Tools at the top of the screen, and click SAA/SMBUS/I2C Tool. This will take you to the menu where you can send any transaction type with any data to an address of your choosing

...

You must input a few things in this screen to do this properly: the address of the device, the type of transaction, and the command/data for that transaction

I am unable to see the GUI because I am not connected to the device since it's yet to arrive.

Our target application is a PMBUS slave which will use SMBUS physical layer for frame transfers. As per the latest PMBUS spec, new commands like page_plus_write, page_plus_read etc are supported in this application. From SMBUS layer point of view, these are mapped to process call commands. So, can you please confirm that we can frame any PMBUS command as defined by SMBUS physical layer frame using this Fusion software?

Thanks for the repsonse.

As mentioned, I am connecting 3 pins (SCL (pin-1), SDA (pin-0), & GND) out of 10 pins of ribbon cable of USB-to-GPIO2 to 3 pins of VCU118 (VCU118 Evaluation Board User Guide (UG1224) • Viewer • AMD Technical Information Portal), hope this Fusion software will detect this connectivity and help me for PMBus transactions. Correct me if I am wrong.

TI can't comment on if this will work with an AMD product. smbus uses SCL, SDA and GND so this should be enough to talk to a compatible smbus device. Please check with AMD support if their product is compatible.

AMD device supports any SCL, SDA, and GND lines either through GPIOs or I2C driven lines.

Anyways, once I receive the device I will check and come back for any issues.
